"The Bloodstained God" was
originally a Kirby O'Donnell story titled "The Curse of the Crimson
God."
It was re-written by de Camp into a Conan story.
|
"The Snout in the Dark"
was an unpublished REH fragment,
which came with a synopsis for the remainder of the story.
L. Sprague de Camp completed the
story, but was not happy with the result, and gave it to Lin
Carter to revise.

Lancer went backrupt in 1973,
but the Lancer Conan titles returned to bookstores in 1977.
The publisher (Ace Books) claimed to be only distributing the series.
The books were purportedly published by Prestige Books.
However, there was no editorial address or contact information for Prestige
in the books.
|
The Prestige books are known to
exist in at least two states.
Some have "DISTRIBUTED BY ACE BOOKS" on the cover, title and copyright
pages.
Prestige Books is listed as the publisher only on the title page.
Some have "ACE" on the cover and are stamped with "Prestige" on the
copyright page.

The Conan series continued up to
the late 1980's and is the basis for numerous licensed as well as bootleg
non-English editions. The Conan series is by far the most reproduced REH
series in the world. It is quite possible that over one million copies
of this book are in print.
