|
Weekly paper for the Baylor College for Women, now the University
of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
|
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor originated
in 1845 as the Female Department of Baylor University.
Baylor University was chartered under the Republic of Texas
in 1845.
Section six of the charter stipulated a Preparatory Department and a
Female Department along with the provisions for the males.
In 1925 Baylor Female College was renamed Baylor College
for Women.
|
Publication of "The Sea" was mentioned by
REH in a letter to TCS, June 22, 1923 ("Clyde sahib greeting: / I found your
first letter …").
It was also referenced in a Belton, Texas paper on May 23,
1923.
|
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
does have copies of several issues from this period, but not
all.
The folks at UMHB think the REH poem might be in the May
19 issue, but they do not have that issue.
Patrice Louinet thinks it may be a later date.
